This mural commemorates the 1916 Easter Rising (which was a fiasco for Irish Republicans but eventually touched off their semi-successful War of Independence).  The building in the background is the General Post Office in Dublin (scene of some of the fiercest fighting of the Rising).  The four shields are the symbols of the four ancient provinces of Ireland...The gaelic words at top translate to &quot;Easter Rising.&quot;
